Global Mom Project

I believe it is one of my life’s greatest responsibility to raise my children to be globally minded. Our world today is more interconnected than ever. And, that isn’t going to change. Our world is virtually becoming smaller and smaller with how connected we become both online and otherwise.

I didn’t grow up with the internet, so much of my knowledge about other countries came from those old fashioned things called books. My first global experience was living abroad in the Philippines for a year when I was a newborn. I have no memories of this, only photos. My second global experience came from a pen pal (yes, hand written letters) with a boy from Sierra Leone. And, perhaps the most life-changing and defining global experience for me was living abroad for six months during college in Seville, Spain.

I love to travel, but this project isn’t just about that. We don’t have to travel the world to learn about it. We can still do much of this from our home and I can develop this mindset in my children through unique and simple ways. Sure, travel is important and a part of my project, but it isn’t the main focus. We will travel through photos, conversations, research, exploring and meeting others in our own local community.

I know raising globally minded children will help them with their future life success. This will teach them important values in life and it will develop their empathy all while giving them the knowledge they are going to need in the future.

I want to cultivate and nurture their natural curiosity about the world. My children’s eyes light up when I pull out a map and we start talking about the world. Their view is unfiltered and fresh. Continuing to cultivate that will only serve to help them in their lives and I believe, improve our world.
