Gimme a Break

My inspiration for this project was Mary Kate McDevitt. I'm always such a perfectionist so I tried to channel her rougher, textured look.

SKETCHES

I knew I wanted to do the phrase "gimme a break." I started sketching and quickly realized that I definitely wanted "break" to be a slab serif. It took me a while to figure out how I wanted to do the other part.

Above is the first composition sketch. After I took this photo I made some adjustments to the squiggle ornaments.

It's not perfect, but that's exactly what I wanted. This class really helped me to embrace the little mistakes!
