German Alps in Fall

REFERENCE::

My piece is a composition of several reference photos. I have never been to the German Alps, but wanted to paint a fall scene. There were few reference photos of the fall in that area, so the composition and elements, though based on German photos, are artistic license. I live in Colorado so my concept of mountains may have crept into the final design. These are the photos I used most heavily from thumb nailing to final version.

^Roughing out the shapes. This screen cap is before I finalized my shadows/lights. Which I still need work on. I decided I didn't like the building as a focal point and wanted it to be a burst of colors in the changing trees, so removed the building altogether.

NOTES::

I used detail brush patterns for the leaves and trees since this is my first digital painting and I didn't know much better. Next one I do I think I will either be more sparing with the brush pattern or not use it at all. I like the color palette but I think it would be stronger if I had chosen a different one. The pinks and purples wash out the structure a little. I think I also went a little heavy on the diffused light through the leaves in the tree and the "fog" between the layers. I loved this class, it taught me a lot.
