Wow, so many good nuggets here! Like Amber, I was that kid in school who turned in funny videos for every project, so this one definitely hit home.
The biggest "aha" moment for me was the idea that genre serves as a form of shorthand between the filmmaker and the audience, allowing you to establish the base reality more quickly. I'd love to apply this idea to future projects.
Amber suggests watching and taking notes, so I'm planning to queue up some of my favorite comedies this week to see how genre (and the other fundamentals she talks about) heightens the comedic effect, in obvious ways and more subtly.
