Garden Friends Collection

My name is Emily and I live in Lawrence, Kansas. I love to do illustration and surface pattern design. I hope to make a career out of them someday, but I am still just starting out. I fell in love with patterns after I took Elizabeth’s first class and I am excited to learn more with all of you in this session! I can’t wait to see everyone’s work!

Here is my moodboard:

Nursery patterns are my favorite as I love to create art for children. For this collection, my theme is 'cute bugs living in a garden' so I have gathered some inspiring patterns and photos of flowers for my moodboard.

Here are some of my initial sketches:

Here are some of my icons after I've digitized them in Illustrator. I feel I tend to have more of an illustrated pattern style as opposed to geometric.

I have been having fun putting this collection together! I decided to make some coordinates as well. Here is the pattern square for the main pattern:

And the full pattern:

Here are the coordinates. I put little holes in the leaves like the caterpillars have been eating them!

Thank you so much for all of your comments and feedback!

Hello everyone!

I started sketching ideas for this pattern a little while back. It was going slowly and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it. Then, I joined this class and found Elizabeth’s lectures so inspiring and helpful that I ended up creating a whole collection out of it!

I wanted it to be a playful pattern, suitable for children.

I love working with cute, nautical themes; especially little ships and light houses!

It's been great fun making patterns! I want to get started on another soon.

Thank you for looking!
