 1: Selecting The Text

I had a hard time choosing which poem to adapt from Edgar Lee Masters' "Spoon River Anthology.". So many painted a picture in my head as I read them. I ultimatey chose "Deacon Taylor", it was just a perfectly simple outline of a man leading a double life. It reads.

I BELONGED to the church,

And to the party of prohibition;

And the villagers thought I died of eating watermelon.

In truth I had cirrhosis of the liver,

For every noon for thirty years,

I slipped behind the prescription partition

In Trainor's drug store

And poured a generous drink

From the bottle marked "Spiritus frumenti."

 2: Drafting The Screenplay - Final Draft

 I imagine the song "Don't Think Twice It's Alright" by Bob Dylan playing at the end.

 3: Logline

 One father looking for an escape in his life. Finds comfort and solace in the one place no one expected.
