Freas and Speakeasy Family Crests

Alright so I chose to do two different family crests- one for my mom's family and one for my roommates.

NOVEMBER 15TH, 11:44 pm- completed the Freas family crest

I decided to make the Freas family crest (my mom's family) as a gift for my grandparents for Christmas. My Mimi has traced our family's history back to the 15th Century, so it seemed fitting.

To begin, my mom and I worked on ideas together and then she watched me put it all together. To summarize: my Pappap's side is primarily from Germany and my Mimi's side is from the British Isle, primarily from Wales. We came over to America and settled in Pennsylvania, where we've stayed since approximately forever. We have history with the Monongahala Railroad and in coal mining. Somehow my grandparents ended up in Ohio and the rest is history. My Mimi is an amazing cook, especially when cooking huge portions of old country comfort food, like goulash and heavenly hash. My grandparents are also very devout. When thinking about a little phrase to include, my mom told me that my Mimi used to have plate that hung in their kitchen that read "This is my house and I'll do as I damn well please." Pretty fitting.

I worked pretty fast, trying to crank everything out in under two hours. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted it to look like and consulted my mom for opinions. I wanted to include the Irish/Welsh side of the family in the colors and the German heritage with the German Adler.

I'm very happy with how it all turned out! I can't wait to start working on the crest for my roommates.

NOVEMBER 21ST, 10:44 AM: Speakeasy "Family" Crest

Alright, finally finished part two. This crest was for my roommates, something to hang on the less than full walls of our living room.

I live with seven other girls (trust me, it's awesome). We all go to the same bible study together, so God is a huge part of all of our lives. We call our house the Speakeasy. I actually have no clue why; I hadn't moved in yet when they picked the name. But regardless, it gave me a lot of ideas to work with. I definitely wanted a flapper girl as the centerpiece to this crest, as opposed to what I did with my other crest. I also wanted to include a mouse somewhere in there because until recently we had a bad mouse problem. So bad actually that we briefly changed our name to the "Squeakeasy". If you've ever seen the Jimmy Fallon "Ew" sketch, then you'll fit right in. If you haven't seen it, go watch it and then come back.

Again, I tried to get a lot done retty fast. I wanted to do a lot more detail work on with crest than the other one, so I did a lot more tracing.

I am very in love with this crest. It defines our house perfectly and my roommates love it, which is always a plus. OH MY GAWD YAS.
