For The Miley In You!

The 2013 VMA's were one for the books.  Every year you can expect to be entertained and surprised by some of the hottest artist in the music game, and this year was no different.  The performance that i feel that made the most buzz would have to have been Miley Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" combined with Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines".  This performance was filled with giant teddy bears, twearking, and a lot of weird tongue gestures.  This performace caused Miley to suffer the wrath of the social network universe.  Comments and jokes about how she sounded,  what she looked like, and what she was doing were all over twitter, instagram, vine, and facebook in just a matter of seconds.

My question to everyone reading this is, "Is Miley really out of control and the one to blame or was she just giving the people what they wanted to see?".  Besides the song being performed live the video and the on stage performace shared many of the same elements that made the song a hit in the 1st place.

It is without a doubt that "We Can't Stop" was and still is a instant hit.  If you haven't heard it, which I advise you to do so,  the song is basically about doing what you want to do and not worrying about what anyone else has to say.  And isn't that what she gave us at the VMA's?  Wasn't the same factors that made this song a hit also the same factors that she put into her VMA performace?  I do admit the performace was a little bit intense but isn't that what the song is about, and I don't know about you but to me there is nothing worse than an artist that has no real live connection to their music.  Just imagine how the world would've taken this song if someone like Monica or Taylor Swift would've recorded this song.

Lastly, Miley might be the main topic of this article but she definitely isn't the first artist in this day and age to promote self expression.  In fact many artist are doing just that through their music, fashion, and social media.  Now people all over are wearing what they want, doing what they want, and enjoying life moment by moment.  If you haven't noticed people in today's world are openly epressing who they are and what they love daily with no hesitation.  Being youself and expressing your uniqueness is what's in now.

So before we write off Miley's performace we all need to take a step back and realize that the song is a reflection of the world around us.  Because I promise you Miley is not the 1st in this world to twerk and do off the wall things and by the direction that pop culture is headed in she won't be the last. So tweark on Miley because this fan won't stop listening to you for being you.
