Foodtailing: Food Startups, Makers and Entrepreneurs (previously Under Disruption)

Reboot - May 31, 2013

On the great advice of Mia, I've decided to add a second magazine that's a little more spefic on a topic I've been tinkering with for some time. My family owned a commercial kitchen in San Antonio, a soul food restaurant in Los Angeles, and some members in my family have started food businesses from home. This is very familiar territory. This magazine is to test the concept to see where it can go and if people would be interested in reading and listening about this.

Introducing Foodtailing - a magazine about food startups, makers, and entrepreneurs. I want to focus it on news, ideas and concepts relating to those people who are starting food businesses of all stripes.

I'm still doing the other magazine and show that will go with it. This project is a concept I want to see how far I want to go with it. So far I'm looking to produce a few related media projects.

Yeah, I got the Twitter feed - @foodtailing - for it.

Also, working on the Tumblr and website.

Update - June 10, 2013

The magazine is turing out better than I expected. I found there are a lot of relevant stories that fit within the scope of this project. I thought there would possibly slow down at some point but the reality has been different.

Plus, I've cultivated new techniques to piecing the magazine together. So far, I'm happy with the result.

If I had to add on something to make the experience for curators more dynamic, I wish Flipbord allowed people to reaarange stories through the app itself and not only the Flipboard editor.

Update - June 17, 2013

The magazine is rounding up in prety good shape. The stories my magazine tends to find most favorable are ones dealing with food trucks, local farmers markets and new food start-up technologies.  Plus, when I cross post items to the Foodtailing Twitter feed, the best repsonses have been for articles on the top 3 above topics.

Flipboard and Twitter have been great ways to test what an audience would like the radio show to feature when the radio entity begins production next month. Also, this class experience has exposed me to some really good strategic ideas moving forward.
