Simple Floral Beauties in Coloured Pencil

This is beautiful! The colors and textures are perfect!

Hello, Dareen, in this illustration I used an analogous color harmony... (consequent colors in the color wheel) which naturally make good light and shadow contrast... also, another thing that was important to get that textured look, was the paper, I used a Canson XL 300gr Watercolor paper. Thanks Jo, I appreciate! I used Derwent Artists colored pencils on a Watercolor Canson XL paper. Using a heavy paper was a great tip and helped a lot to create a more interesting texture!

Thanks for that, Ana Maria. I'm guessing from your comment on texture that the watercolour paper was of a medium grain (cold-pressed) rather then smooth? Your areas of light and dark and the varied shades of purple/pink are so beautiful.

The Canson XL Watercolor paper is Cold Pressed... In the class Ana Pérez has a full lesson talking about paper. I highly recommend it! I didn't had those papers, so I worked with the watercolor one, but yes, the grain and the way I was holding the pencil helped a lot for the light areas! If you are interested, take the class, Ana Pérez is my friend and she is a great teacher!!! :)

Thanks for those comments and suggestion, Ana Maria. I will certainly look into this class when time permits, as I would like to get more familiar with using my pencils, and on a variety of papers beyond cartridge/smooth. :)

I really enjoyed making this illustration, I have had a lot of years with out coloring with pencils, so it was nice to give them a try again.
