Floral - Hues

My name is Haya and I'm currently a student studying engineering (I know, why the heck am I here?!). I've been doing art since I was a child and it's a passion I will never set aside as I aspire to become an engineer. Going into this class, I already knew plenty about illustrator and graphic design. I haven't touched creating patterns prior to today, and it was a pleasure learning how to create patters as easy as this!

So I guess here is the progress I went through to create my pattern, hues.

Starting with sketches, I wasn't really sure what I was aiming for. I had plenty of ideas, but I didn't want to go traditional witht the flowers, nor did I want to do something bland. I ended up drawing leaves (ugly ones) and grabbed a set of flowers in my sketchbooks that I've drawn over and over again.

Vectorizing the little drawings was super easy. I just used the blob tool using my mouse. I combined all of the flowers together though because I thought it looked better that way. Here were the results:

Vectorized Drawings:

For this project, I went to a site called design-seeds.com. I found it on pinterest board. I liked so many of the color swatches, but I really liked this old door swatch and thought to go with it.

Color Pallete Inspiration:

Lastly, getting into the actual pattern making. This was quite difficult for me because I really wanted to create an out of the ordinary pattern, but that didn't work out so well. So, I went the traditional route and repeated my design in lines.

This is what I started out with:

I couldn't even fill the gaps properly without it looking super odd to me, so then I went about this process by creating the pattern this way:

I was content with it and then created the swatch. Looking at it, there is a lot going on, but I sort of like it that way!

Viola! This is the only pattern I created, but I do want to experiment some more!

This class was awesome.

Thanks for stopping to look by my piece! Have a lovely day/evening!
