Floral February Watercolour Flowers

Floral February Watercolour Flowers - student project

I decided to create my own daily challenge so I could focus on my water colour painting skills. I set myself the challenge of a painting a day for two weeks. And I didn't quite make it. I work full time, and over the course of 3 weeks, I managed to create 12 paintings.

For me, this was quite an effort. But it really taught me the discipline of sitting down at my desk in the evening and focusing on creating something. It's been a long time since I've had the drive to do that, and it rekindled my love of painting and illustrating.

My Instagram tags included generic things like #watercolour, but I also piggybacked off the #floralfebruary tag to reach other people creating flower illustrations during the month.

The first piece I created was a snapdragon. And it surprised me with how much I would be capable of.

Ultimately, at the end of the project, my favourite piece was a magnolia. I had to really restrain myself to get the subtleties of colour within the petals, and it turned out so much better than I expected.
