Flight Risk

I picked "Flight Risk" from a running list of ideas I keep for T-shirts and other such things. I encountered the term as a corporate classification for an employee poised to leave a company. I prefer thinking of it as a title someone wears with confidence because they believe there's something better out there for them and anticipate finding it.

I started with some thumbnails and began liking the ones in the lower right-hand corner of the page.

I found a couple of fonts on LostType Co-op I thought could work. (Nice resource.)

Before I purchased a font, I wanted to have a better idea if it would work with the look I had in mind, so I did a couple of quick sketches in Photoshop using the alphabet samples provided, which worked much better than I expected.

I picked a font, slanted it, and made various other modifications. I tried some of the effects shown in the lesson, but opted to keep this fairly simple.

I brought the clean vector art into Photoshop and tried some of the distressing effects covered in the lesson, and then tried this version over a couple of photos.

I also submitted the art as a T-shirt to Cotton Bureau. It was approved and will be available to purchase here until Friday, September 19, 2014, at 2:00 PM EDT.
