Flamingo Love

Flamingo Love - student project

This is my first time attempting to draw directly in Photoshop, and it was intimidating at first, and quite a learning curve, trying different brushes and figuring out how to best use which one. Also learning to layer my colors, vary the opacities and using layer blending modes (normal vs. multiply, etc) for Illustration.

I started with a search for reference material.

Then moved on to pencil sketches, but realized I may as well try sketching directly into Photoshop to avoid drawing the same thing twice.

Sketching the flamingos directly in Photoshop. I then used one of these sketches as the basis for the final image.

To add cuteness, I researched and drew some tropical flowers.

I drew the flowers in Illustrator, experimenting with the gradient blend function to make more realistic soft coloring.

My final image.

I used the charcoal pencil brush for most of it, drawing directly over my initial sketch, and experimented with different layer modes, such as multiply, and many layers, some with different opacity.
