Fit at 50

My Story:  Hi, my name is Kristy and I am 49 years old.  10 years ago I was an exercise junkie, then my world went into a different direction.  My husband and I adopted our nephew who was 30 days old (he was born a drug baby and had medical problems), with in the following year we found out my mother had breast cancer and my grandfather had colon cancer.  I live on a ranch, so there is a lot of daily work that has to be done.  Not only was I taking care of my new son, I was helping my mother and grandparents with everyday household things, i.e. cooking, cleaning, laundry, and doing outside chores.  Needless to say my daily exercise routine went out the window.  Four years ago I decided to go back to school to get my masters degree in special education (I did it all online) and just after I started classes, my husband accepted a new job and we moved.  So here I am 10 years later, about to turn 50, out of shape and ready to get my life back to being fit, thus my project title of "Fit at 50".

My Goals: 

1) To eat healthier - introduce gluten free products, experiement with new vegetables, and eat more fruit.  I am using the Evernote Food app for recipes.

2) To get fit - I do not have access to a gym - I  am using the following apps- Fitocracy,Nike Training, and Ease into 5K.  I also have a Wii Fit, weights, and bands. 

My Plan:

I am in the process of making weekly meal plans, preparing food and cooking ahead so I can take a healthy lunch to school and I have healthy snacks prepared when I get home from school.  I am still trying to find a good time to exercise, right now I am doing it whenever I can, but I would like to get on a schedule.  By February, I hope to have a solid routine in place and well on my way to a "Fit 50" by May 26th.
