First Foray into Watercolor

First Foray into Watercolor - student project

This was so fun! I've never used watercolors before, but have wanted to try for quite a long time. I'm so glad I had this class to get me into it. It wasn't just watercolors that I learned, but the techniques for making a pattern were so helpful! Before I'd even finished my project, I had used the pattern making techniques for another piece I was working on.

Here is an overview of my watercolor attempts:

The first one I worked on was the green/yellow swash in the bottom right hand picture. Here's that isolated and color corrected, and then the pattern:

This pattern ended up being tricky to work with because it was SO streaky. Any repetition was pretty obvious. But it was a good learning experience.

Here's my test where I applied the watercolor as a pattern overlay on some text:

After I did a few patterns, I made a little art piece (using the piece and idea found here) with the textures. Here they are:

I had a really good time doing this and it's sparked lots of ideas for the future!
