Fireside

I started by sketching out my idea. I wanted to try and keep it relatively simple so that there wouldn't be too many crazy shadows to figure out. (I don't know why the photo keeps inserting itself sideways you'll just have to tilt your head lol)

Next I chose some inspiration. I have always felt like this grainy style was everywhere, but of course when I was actually looking for it, I had some trouble. I picked a few pictures that I found that exemplified the style, lighting, and shadows that I was going for.

And then after lots of re-dos and finagling, I finally came up with this:

I am pretty happy with the way it turned out! I ended up getting rid of the pup because I couldn't get it to look how I wanted to. I definitely learned a lot about shading, and also learned that a higher contrast of colors generally looks better with the grain in order to make it stand out.

I had a great time taking this class. Thank you so much Joash for teaching something that I have always wondered about!
