Fireflies

Living in Michigan, summer has a  certain magic to it that never goes away. When Bonnie posted the project to create your favorite thing about nature, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try to capture the magic and wonder that Michigan Summers have. Maybe it's because summer doesn't last long, but they're absolutely wonderful. Some of my fondest memories are sitting in my backyard, and staring up at the clear sky, and soon realizing that I was surrounded by fireflies. When you're a kid, magic seems to be everywhere because you're still learning the ins and outs of the world. But when you grow up, finding that magic that you felt as a child is hard to find sometimes. It's so simple, but fireflies make me feel that magic again, even if it's just for a moment.

At the beginning of the project, I sketched a few pages of what I wanted this to turn into:

(I couldn't decide what color I liked better.)

This is what I have for my pattern so far! I'm hoping to build on this more to create several piece for a line.

Any feedback on this is welcomed! Enjoy. :)

March 1st Update:

I've been playing around a lot with this pattern. It's so much fun getting lost in creating patterns, and I wanted to keep building on what I already had. Below, you'll find a version for little girls:

I played with adding textures and making sure there was enough contrast. The textures gave it a whole new look, and turns out it was what I was looking for. Originally, I wanted to have a line for little girls, and boys, so they could decorate their rooms with it; bedding, wall paper, lamps, notebook covers, etc.

The "final line" that I created is:

The main pattern on top, with two other patterns to compliment it.

I do hope you enjoyed my project.

Thanks guys. :)
