Finding consistency with @chickenscrawlings (work in progress) - student project

I've struggled with this for a while now. Chicken Scrawlings is my blog and my Instagram of the same name feeds content that fall into my blog's theme "Food, Fun & Life".

I have observed that the best accounts are very consistent in tone, colours and types of images (food only, architecture only, landscapes only etc), which has always been a challenge for me, since food, fun, life and everything in between spans a wide variety of objects, colours style.

I got featured nearly 2 years ago which explains the large number of followers, but I've been struggling to keep up engagement since growing from 2800+ followers to 29K at its highest point and it's been steadily dropping to this current stable number.

From architecture to crafts to books and food focused images, it's a broad category to fit it all in. And sometimes my cat Smudge (a big piece of my heart and life) makes an appearance.

I'm testing out a new strategy alongside the important questions to keep in mind. Since Instagram is mostly accessed by mobile phones, I'm working on keeping three consecutive images in the row in the same vein and theme, whether by composition, theme or colour, so there is more consistency upon first glance looking at the first 6 images.

Notice also how light and dark tones are so jarringly different, hence inconsistent.

I've updated to the business profile and have much more intel and insight on engagement and numbers.

Creating several separate channels isn't an option for me because the blog isn't specifically about one topic but a range of lifestyle topics and sprung out of a labour of love.

So here are a few things I am looking at changing in the coming weeks and will be updating.

1. Rows of three should be consistent in theme, object, colours eg (all architecture, places, spaces shot in a row, food photos all in a row)

2. Experimenting with different textures

3. More action (hand shots) for food

4. dark backgrounds

5. light backgrounds

4. Playing with light and shadows (part of another brilliant course with @mariyakey)

So here I am two weeks later after a trip, working on more consistency in the rows of 3. I update daily, fan numbers are falling, but engagement according to the stats are healthy and growing from 20K and up in terms of engagement.
