Attempting this 14-day Art Challenge was probably one of the best decisions I've made during 2020, as it really helped rekindle the love I had for art. 2020 had been difficult year for many of us, me included. Working from home and living alone all through lockdown had really taken a toll on my mental health, and I couldn't find joy or motivation in anything I did. This exercise turned out to be free art-therapy as well, as 1 month after finishing this course, I've taken more art courses and am able to look forward to drawing again! Thanks Marie!
These sketches were done mostly with office supplies I had lying around (and brush pens). I've also avoided sketching out the drawings first, and try to be satisfied with whatever comes out. Upon comparing notes with the other students who've uploaded, I think I might have taken the themes too literally as well haha.
'Journey' was based on a rather ill-advised adventure where my friend and myself had to trek 4 hours through the English countryside, in pitch darkness, during the middle of winter, just because we wanted to have a picnic on the tallest hill we could find, and lost track of time.
A personal goal of mine is to be able to take it slow and enjoy spending time with real people, face to face again.
Decided to make Metamorphosis part 2 a continuation of part 1, where the 'metamorphosis' has spread and begun to consume the character. I really enjoyed this one!
Strangely, a lot of people who attempted Day 7 drew deer, myself included. Why have the deer invaded our subconscious and made us draw them so?
Day 8's 'Colours of the Day' was a second attempt. I liked the characters from the first attempt, but they didn't look like they fit well on a page together, so this second attempt was to try to make them harmonise a little better.
Was rather dissatisfied with day 7's attempt as it was meant to be kind of spooky, but didn't really look or feel like anything. Tried to change up the look using highlighters, for a more... Psychedelic look?
The random squiggle that appeared from "cloudwatching" kind of looked like a frog and also a car. This was an attempt to conceptualise a frog car.
Day 14's Texture. This took the longest despite being the smallest piece as I tried to put in as much detail as possible with only a black ink brush-pen. It was a rather excruciating process.
