Family de la Vega

Well, here we are.

First of all, I have to say that when I saw the Project for this class, I wasn't inspired at all by it, but after the explanation from Aaron I thought it was pretty funny and maybe I could make something interesting with it mixing it with actual history of my family.

My family name is Spanish, all of them, and I had struggled choosing between them. "Martínez", "Sicilia", "Robles", all good stuff. But I decided for DE LA VEGA, because its history is awesome (and no, it has nothing to do with El Zorro).

The "De la Vega" family is from Santander, on the north coast of Spain. You should go if you have the chance, it is beautiful there. The original motto of my family crest is "Malo Mori Quam Foedari", which translated from Latin says "I would rather die than be dishonored". It's cool, but I didn't have a clear idea of where to place it (or even placed it all), so I left it out.

The shape was inspired by the actual heraldic emblem of my family. The shield was modified and added a boat in honor of my grandfather, who loved them.

Instead of laurel I used leaves from an oak tree to make the bays. My grandfather married my grandmother and her last name was Robles, so the tree and the crest was the connection between them. (For a while I even thought about mixing them in one family crest, but I decided for this instead).

The colors I used for the full colored version are azure and vert, typical on the heraldic illustrations of my family, and also gold and bronze.
After I finished, I simplified it into only vert (green) and white, and I like it even more.

The other two sections are filled with stories and History. The one on the left is a well known symbol of the Pharmacy. My great-grandfather was the pharmacist of the king of Spain Alfonso XIII in his palace, and also a eminence in medicine. José de la Vega was in charge of his own lab (Vega's Laboratories) in the 1920's until it was destroyed by the Spanish Civil War (1931-1936), but he re-opened it after under the name of Ulzurrún Laboratories.

-Pretty awesome, isn't it? Great man, my great-grandfather. and a really good person...
-Yeah, but enough History and go to the fun story!

The symbol on the left side represents his brother Pancho, doing a handstand on the top of the Santander lighthouse. True story. That man was the opposite of my great-grandfather, so crazy and impulsive. He even went "on tour" with a caravan performing a satirical puppet theater from village to village to pay for his soon-to-wife school.

So, what do you think of my family crest? a mix of the fun and the historic parts of de la Vega family. If you have some feedback to improve it, go ahead, I'll read every comment and try my best to implement it.
Thanks for reading ;)
