Exploring the "real world"

Exploring the "real world" - student project

For the last three years, I've been drawing small doodles for my co-workers and through that, I've developed a rough idea of what I feel I look like. I'm excited to dive deeper into the idea and really make it solid!

Here are my sketches:

I started by messing around with different shapes to find something that was both fun to draw and pleasing to look at. In the bottom right, I also tried out what some poses might look like with different body types.

Here is my model sheet:

I made the head large because I wanted to focus on the emotions of the character. To that end I wanted the entire head to react when he was feeling something. When he sad it droops down, when he's shocked it pops up. Drawing from the side was something I have rarely done. It was a struggle to get his legs the way I wanted them. I think I may still go back and redesign his legs at some point.
