Excelsior

10 words, 10 fonts

The mini project dealing with 10 fonts and 10 words was fun to do. I have several fonts downloaded to Illustrator and Photoshop via fontsquirrel. Despite this, when doing the project I happened to stick mostly to the default fonts.

Final Project

I love the film Silver Linings Playbook. It's one of my all time favorite films. For the final project I pulled a quote from the main character of the film, Pat (Bradley Cooper). In the film he says the word 'excelsior' a lot. It's technical definition means 'ever upward'. Pat says the word a lot so that he can get through the negativity that surrounds him.

I designed the quote using Illustrator. I plan on revising it to make it a little better. Here is my first attempt at making the design with the quote.

Redesign 1:

With the suggestion, I went back and emphasized the 'negativity' and 'silver lining' words. Never done typography extensive work in Illustrator before. I'm starting to learn some ways around. Here is the first redesign of the quote.

Redesign 2:

Less of a redesign and more of a new one. I took another quote from the film Silver Linings Playbook to use for the final project. I used an online tutorial (http://bit.ly/1vmE166) to guide me in exploring different ways to manipulate the text. I like the result but will continue to experiment with different spacing and formatting. Here is the first version below.

Redesign 3:

I wanted to make a postcard-ish illustration. I used a tutorial from Shuttershock (http://shutr.bz/1j0CdpR) and a stock image from a free use image website to make the complete illustration.

I took a quote from Silver Linings Playbook actress Jennifer Lawrence's other movie: American Hustle. Picture below. (tutorial used for it: http://bit.ly/1xASVH0 )
