  • Why am I making this map? For fun? A client? A gift? To showcase my favorite places? Etc.

I am making this map for several reasons. First, it is not easy, with no street names, to find places in Abidjan. So I wanted to make a map of a popular part of the city for Ex-Pats. Second, many Ex-Pats that live here spend most of their time across the lagoon in a neighborhood called Zone 4. Many don’t realize that there is a lot to do on this side of the lagoon, so in a way, I am promoting a part of Abidjan that many may not know about. Read more about this here on my blog! http://jsteendavis.blogspot.fr/2012/10/on-dit-quoi-one-cale-in-abidjan.html

  • Why am I the expert to create this map?

I don’t know if I am an expert, but I know that if upon arrival in Abidjan someone had given me this map, I would have greatly appreciated it!

  • Who is my target audience?

New arrivals in Abidjan, those of us who have been here but haven’t yet explored the 2 Plateau area…

  • Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is going to be used/held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward? (Note type can be smaller on printed maps than when viewed on web)

I think it could be either digital or printed. Depends…. I think I would start with digital though.

  • What level of detail do I need to include? (Names, addresses, contact info, street names, website, hours, descriptions, color coding, etc.)

For details, I would like to have information on the restaurants/hang-out spots, plus what to say to a taxi to arrive (this is key!)

  • Dear class, I need your help/expertise/guidance on how to.....

I would like some ideas on how to limit what I include on the map. And how to make it so there isn’t too much info on the map, but just enough so everyone can use it.
