Evil Robot Uprising

For my project, I will be designing a logo for the very elite (and completely imaginary) team of rebels who were assembled to protect the world against the Evil Robot Uprising and inevitable Robot Apocalyse (also completely made up.)

I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do yet but I am picturing some sort of satirical army/special forces-type logo.  I love vintage tin robots and the style of the atomic age so I would love to create something with a  retro feel.  A lot of miliary logos include illustrations of guns so I also thought that it would be fun to also incorporate some retro ray guns into my design somehow.

In order to help me nail down my design, I created a pinterest board to collect inspiration for vintage robots, atom bomb posters, retro science textbook illustrations and general atomic age design.

Here is a link to the full board:

And here are a couple screen shots of the inspiration I collected on Pinterest:

I also looked into a few  "military" logos for even more inspiration  The ones I liked best actually ended up being from video games (Call of Duty in particular), comics or zombie related :-)

I have been playing with my design over the past few days and thought that I would share some of my rough sketches.  I have a lot more work to do but things are starting to take shape.

I found it really helpful to write down a list of related words, feelings and ideas in order to help spark ideas for the overall design.

After I completed my mood word brainstorm, I started playing around with different configurations and shapes.  I love the idea of making the design into a patch that a member of my imaginary task force might wear on his or her sleeve :-)

Here is my final design!

And here it is on a shirt mockup.  I like it on gray but I would probably choose a slightly lighter shade if I were to actually get it printed.

I really enjoyed this class and had a blast creating my project.  Thanks!!
