Envelope

Hey everyone! I met Erik briefly at the AIGA conference earlier this month and got really psyched about hand-lettered type. And coincidentally, I had a client project that called for hand-lettered type, which I have zero experience in, so that's how I came across this class!

These are some photos I took looking for interesting type in my neighborhood.

Got the art supplies, did a bunch of practice. A snapshot of some of the practice pages I pulled out after I finished the project:

I had a bunch of envelopes lying around, so I decided to do a warm-up without preparation for an art trade I did with a friend from college:

And here's the final envelope! I made it so send my girlfriend an anniversary present. (We're long-distance, she's finishing school in Kansas and I'm working in DC.)

I still need some work on my scripts, the kerning on the E and the R in Tyler are way off and Lawrence is kinda shabby. Overall it was a lot of fun and I'm excited to keep trying new things and to pull this into my client work.

There she is when she got it!

Thanks Erik!
