Enticed by a constellation of possibilities

Enticed by a constellation of possibilities - student project

Thanks so much for an informative and inspiring class. I'm trying to branch out into editorial illustration and this really helped hone my process.

Here are my initial sketches...

I thought the title of the article was a little confusing in itself as it used two metaphors, snake oil and second act. I tried to delve into both a little in these sketches but it needed to be more simple. I liked the hall of mirrors analogy but the image wasn't clear enough. Then the 'enticed by a constellation of [possibilities]' quote resonated with me and I went with that one.

The rough sketch had a woman looking directly up, but I went with a side view and added a looming mountain to add to the sense of how unachievable or treacherous the path to these dreams may be.

For the final I added a snake-like path up the mountain and the 'constellation of possibilities' in the sky, and some textures and details.

I thought it would be fun to make a little GIF of it too...

Thanks again Emiliano!
