End Petlessness

I loved playing around with the program Paint in primary school, but I'm fairly new to Illustrator. I followed half a series of tuturials elsewhere, but felt I needed to practice what I learned in order to really grasp the possiblities of the program.

I chose a poster on which I could use the different drawing styles: from building with shapes and pen drawing to painting with the blob brush. This is my poster after the form building lesson:

The only real problem I ran into was that I added the background last and this made the green in the trees disappear. I still don't know why this happened, but I fixed it by simply placing new green circles there.

Here's what my project looks like after the form syling lesson:

I think the subtle gradients and the shadows that I added give the poster more body. I had some trouble finding the right type, and decided to choose a different one than in the original image. I could work some more on the shadows of the trees and in the clouds, but so far I'm pretty satisfied with my very first Illustrator project!
