Embrace Your Art Challenge

All ink for the next month.

DAY 1: ROOT

DAY 2: PLACE

I'm curious to find out how long I can handle intricate lines before I lose my mind. The following sketch inspired by my favorite geological features, mountains.

DAY 3: MUSIC

I don't have a favorite song. So I put on a mix of all my favorite music. And then there was a dinosaur skeleton. *shrug*
Technically a glorified tracing, but a good lesson in patience. Feelin' out my madness threshold. Getting real close.

DAY 4: LIGHT

After an hour of feeling uninspired, I unscrewed the bulb from a nearby lamp and just started putting stuff on paper.

DAY 5: SHADOW

Lines AND dots. And splats.

DAY 6: COMFORT

I find comfort in cartoons. And food. Food cartoons.

DAY 7: COMPOSITION

Went abstract for some inspiration. Meh.

DAY 8: MEMORY

More abstract. Worried that I am getting bored with ink. This next week is going to be rough.

DAY 9: TEXTURE

Of course texture was the prompt the day after I was experimenting with crusty old brushes. I just started sketching different line textures and the circles were fun and mindnumbing, so I went with it.

DAY 10: TIME

Didn't have the mental energy to get into the prompt in any meaningful way, so I just gathered up some watches and a clock and drew them. Not thrilling, but I showed up.

DAY 11: PERSPECTIVE

Not finding a lot of time to let any ideas ferment. Just started working on some handwriting. Decided to work with the word perspective. Tried to work it into itself upside-down. I don't love what I ended up with. But it's a start.

DAY 13: OPEN

Doughnuts.

DAY 14: GIFT

I got a doughnut for Valentine's Day. It was delicious. Now I am waiting for my birthday cake this weekend from my sister. We give food as gifts. Because food is delicious.

DAY 15: BALANCE

Still drawing food. *sigh*

DAY 16: DEPTH

This was the first thing that came out of my head.

DAY 17: NURTURE

Not sure what it means that I drew nails and hammers and screw heads. Not reading into it much. Just glad I thought of something to draw.

DAY 18: PAST

I have this stange affinity for drawing like a child. I like imagining things as a child might. I sometimes get too caught up in detail and realism in my drawing that I lose interest. I think that drawing things as simply as I can imagine is some kind of odd, unintentional therapy. I didn't worry too much about coming up with SOMETHING to draw. I just put the pen in my nondominant hand and just started drawing more food. Ink splats were intentional, except for the first one...

DAY 19: THEME

Food. Always food.

DAY 20: PRECIOUS

I decided that I hate the word "precious". It lives in the same part of my brain that pastel colors live. Bleh. Skin doth crawleth. Despite that, I spent today with my sister. I guess I consider her precious (*vomits in mouth a little bit*). Anyway, this comic felt like us.

DAY 21: DREAM

Had a crappy day. More lines.

DAY 22: FEAR

DAY 23: STRUCTURE

I have been meaning to practice letter structure. So I did.

DAY 24: DETAILS

Details I can do.

DAY 25: SAFE

I think I decided to go abstract because you can't really mess it up. I typically don't know when to stop. So I made myself stop while I still wanted to keep going.

DAY 26: MAGIC

Still technically ink. I was trying to stick to just dip ink, but I just needed color today.

DAY 27: GROW

Got involved in a decluttering project and didn't have a ton of time to sketch the past few days.

DAY 28: BLISS

Before I fell asleep last night, while laying in bed, I suddenly wanted coffee. I have been trying to lay off the coffee because I usually start with a half a cup a day and before I know it I am drinking full Bodums. I gave in and had an espresso at work. And it was soooo good. It made my day so much better.

DAY 29: LEAP

And for my final day, I was able to work on a little project that I came up with this month that I think has the potential to be a nice print. Woo!
