Elevator to the Gallows

One of my favorite films, one of the most suspenseful, from one of my favorite directors, Elevator to the Gallows (Ascenseur pour L'Echafaud), by Louis Malle is simply, art. I used this film as inspiration for another Skillshare class "How Posters Work". I think it's time to revive, rework this concept. I hope this class will help me to push my idea even farther!

Here's a version of the poster I designed for the class:

For this look and feel I'm thinking french details, sapphire based palette or just black and white (I haven't decided just yet), smokiness (like jazz clubs back in the day). My main goal is to present some sort of sophisticated suspense. Actually, that's a bit more pretentious than I have time to conjure up for this project. Nice to just get my feet wet in this program.

As a warm up I took the past few days to watch each video and follow Jake's process step by step. I rewound a lot and it took me a long time to create this, far from perfect copy of his Interstellar animation, but I feel more confident in applying some of these techniques to my own design. I'll start my research and sketching process soon. Super stoked!
