Echoes of Spring- Bronwyn Hayes.

Project 1: Echoes of Spring.

We are in the middle of winter in Australia and it's freezing cold. So when I received this gorgeous bunch of flowers it reminded me of the warmth and beauty of Spring.

So I've designed my first project around this bouquet of flowers and called the project "Echoes of Spring".

  My words of inspiration are:

Sunnyside up, whispering grass, Spring rain, meadow of flowers, heady aroma of Jonquils, drowsy bees.

Drawings For Project 1- ECHOES OF SPRING:

I haven't drawn for a while- so these are fairly primitive-

There's more- but that will do for now to give the idea behind the designs.

COLOURING THE DESIGNS- The Tricky Part:

After scanning the drawings into Illustrator- I then tried colouring them.

And found I knew absolutely nothing about Illustrator.

This was heaps harder than I thought- and what appears below- has happened completely by chance- and not by any planning of my own. (Days of sitting in front of the computer re-doing things). I doubt I'll get three pattern design collections done- but hopefully can achieve one- and work on the rest when the course finishes.

SCRAPPING THE COLOURED DESIGNS (above) AND STARTING AGAIN!

After much re-drawing, re-colouring and re-doing many, many times I  have come up with two mediochre main designs for Echoes of Spring:

1. This was the first attempt.

And- Second attempt.

And one subsidiary design for Echoes of Spring:

 Summary:

I've been extremely disappointed with myself for not being able to learn Illustrator in one week (the week of the free trial download).

And I think I'll be doing designs from now until Christmas- 2017! Until I get the hang of both the designing and Illustrator.

PROJECT 2- A Walk on the WildSide.

Inspiration for this project is the walks around the lake. Lots of floral ideas- no squirrels- but I do like the idea of squirrels. They sort of lend a bit of "wild" to the theme.

The lake walks conjure up words of inspiration such as:

Sunshine, rippling water, breeze, woods, bottle brush, gumnuts.

Techniques: watercolour, line art, hand drawings, geometric designs.

Project 3: Jellyroll and Jam.

PROJECT 3- JellyRoll and Jam.

My thoughts on this are for all the fun outdoor games of childhood.

Skipping, hopscotch, running, baseball flying kites etc.

Techniques: I thought watercolours or gouache, pen maybe coloured pencils.

It's been a long while since I've done any drawing- so the drawings will go up when I've put a little more practice in.
