I started to do this when the class went public last year. Back then I gave up. Drawing flat dit not appeal to me. I ended up drawing as I always did trying to get as much volume into the figures as possible. The first set of hockey players are from that time. The second set are from the last week. Old habits die hard.
It was not until I did the people in shapes and the exaggeration exercises that something began to happen. I chose the trombone player for my final illustration although there is a nice rhythm to the guy reading a newspaper.
I think if I could hit a sweet spot between realism and some more stylized figures that would be the way forward for me.
Just a few minor changes. The arm is less dominant and there is some more weight added to the top. I also tried to make the trombone less straight.
