East Village

Milestone 1: Scouting

I've lived in the East Village for the past couple of years. I've pretty much memorized the entire 'hood and have become fascinated with 10th Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave. It has a nice Brooklyn feel to it right in the middle of Manhattan.

While doing some research, I came across this article that goes through the history of that block.  

However, the most richly detailed element of the building is the gorgeous, balconette-like iron fire escapes on the 10th Street elevation, more reminiscent of New Orleans than New York.

For my project, I'll use my iPhone to capture this block by utilizing lines, symmetry and lighting to frame the picture. For inspiration, I really like these photos from trashhand:
