EMBELLISHED: Rich Jewel Tones and Textured Pattern
I have to say thank you so much for sharing your tips and talents with us Katie, and taking the time to put it all online! I'm really going to miss this, it was fun to be a part of. I hope you'll be able to do another class someday soon!
You really taught me how to keep the watercolor soft, and utilize its qualities. I loved your emphasis on line weight, and encouragement to experiment - it got my creative juices flowing like never before! I have come away from this a much freer artist.
I have to say the green gown I drew is my favorite, and it came to me the quickest! My favorite details on the green gown are the paper flower and the tiny peek of red shoe.
This red gown was my first attempt, and it actually looks really pretty on display, it kind of has this impressionist-like effect where it looks better from a distance.
I tried to create the illusion of 3 dimensional florals, inspired by all the textures in my pictures.
Right now I'm inspired by vibrant and rich jewel tones on the runway, especially when combined with intricate textured patterns. Classically tailored silhouettes from the 50's and ethereal, flowing gowns are always my favorites - looks from Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, and Dior. And red, always red - it never goes out of style.
