Dubonet Poster

Super excited to have taken this class, as I learned a lot. I was attracted to this poster when deciding on what to replicate for the project. I love the simplicty, the boldness, the contrast. I felt like it would be a good exercise:

First step was to do the image in grayscale, so I could get a sense of how it was going to come out in terms of contrasts:

I then added colors, trying to stick as closely to the original as possible. My own internal restriction was that I could only use vectors for this project. I wanted to create the whole thing in Illustrator, which meant that I was going to have to use a lot of gradients. That was tougher than I could have imagined!

Lastly, I added texture. Again, I was limiting myself to use only vectors so I knew I was going to have a lot of "sharp" edges and harsh-looking transitions. I understood this and am pretty happy with how my semi-final version turned out. I will need to tweak it a bit, as I might try using gradients in my textures to soften them up. I will say using only vectors was tough. But I learned a lot this way.
