Diamond Dogs

So I wasn't really sure what kind of creature I wanted to create. I started with the doodles in the top left to try and trid to figure something out. I thought something a bit more sleek and slender would be interesting, considering I don't draw many animals with that body type. I really liked the idea of dogs being combined with something foreign to them. i decided that dgos who had absorbed certain types of minerals onto their body would be an interesting enough idea. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that it would be even more intriguing if the dogs also had some lixard-like features, and here we are. I'm not really sure how I'm going to go about texturing the skin of the creature, but I think it would be cool to stick to something more scaly in nature. I want the base structure of it to remain dominantly canine, though. The tail was an idea I had for a type of claw or mouth; something able of clamping down on precious gems. Once more, not sure how that will end up looking, but I think it's a neat idea. Additionally, I included elongated fore-nails, with the intention that they would be beneficial for digging. The slits along the side of the neck are mostly cosmetic right now, but if they operated in some sonar/visual fashion, I think it could add more to the character. Probably the thing that makes the least amount of sense in my additions is the extra jaw. This is an idea I've had for a while, but never had the chance to really try and flesh out. I'm curious to see what I can do to the skeletal and muscular structure of the face to make such a bizarre thing more believable. This project will surely be a challenging one, but I look forward to seeing what I come up with.
