Desert Pattern Set

For my class project, I decided to create a "desert" nature theme, elements of which I've been really into lately!

  • Snakes
  • Lizards
  • Cactus
  • Skulls
  • Serpent Eggs
  • Various triangle shapes
  • Sun
  • Moon

1. Here's a photo of my painting process. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the drawings before I began painting.

2. I don't have watercolour markers so I decided to outline the black after painting, with the exception of the middle pyramid image. I marker outlined this piece first, then painted, and sure enough the black marker smudged once it was painted over.

3.  Here is the elements of my drawings vectorized! I removed the smudgy pyramid because I didn't like it enough to use it. The militia tool didn't work very well for me, as it ended up deleting quite a bit of the lighter colours within some elements (ie. the light green cactus, and the head of the snake). I had to go around most of them and manually erase some of the white background and it took a bit longer but I'm really happy with the way it turned out.

4. PATTERN #1, tried with a white background.

5. PATTERN #2, this time a big larger to scale and on a coloured background. and tried reflecting one of the elements (the lizard). I really liked how this one turned out!

6. PATTERN #3, tried adding more elements to the mix as well as tilting the cacti in different directions.

7. Same pattern as above but with different background! I don't know which colour I like better. Leaning towards green :)
