Demons (final draft)

STORY CHOICE

"Pastures of Heaven" by John Steinback

Chapter Two (excerpt) ...about John Battle, a rejected son and paranoid priest.

DRAFT:  July 24th: DEMONS (final draft)

LOGLINE: Exorcist minister resist to face his real demons.

I want to thank everybody who read my screenplay.

I learned a lot from this collaborative environment and I enjoyed reading many of your stories and to know how you approach or become interested to a particular narrative. As I continue following the steps to become a real screenwriter, this experience was an amazing opportunity to write more and more.

From the feedback I have received, I want to thank every single one who found some time to spare and comment. In my final draft I decided to stick with my origins, with minimum dialogue, bringing the character depth through his actions and relationships.

Also, I want to apologize for being less active here in the past weeks. I just started in a new job and had very little time to dedicate myself more and give feedbacks.

Plus, James Franco, if you're reading this, I'm a big fan! haha I hope I can work with you someday.

WHY I CHOSE THIS STORY

I believe that every screenplay/story must have something that the author relates to. I have some experience with rejections and how this can devastate ourselves. The longer we took to forgive, (or to try to understand) the deeper the wounds get.

Also, this mini-bio of John Battle gives many possibilites to transport it to nowadays. I tried to avoid the dramatic tone of the original story by giving it a comedic and ironic point of view.

WRITING PROCESS

After picking the story, I made a character profile of John, his motivations and why he behaves in his unique way. Later, I wrote several main story points and commentaries, letting space if any changes were necessary throughout the process.

I made an argument divided in 3 Act Structure (it's a short movie, so it's not that accurate, plus it's in portuguese. You'll probably not understand).

Finally I wrote an Outline, describing the actions at every scene. Note that there are some changes from the outline to the final draft.

I used Highland as a formatting and writing software.
