Hi there, I'm Hailey!
I'm currently a Digital Media Major at an art school in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Though I do mostly digital work, I know that getting in the habit of just drawing every day will really help me. I have a close friend who draws every day, and the changes and improvements I've seen in her work are incredible.
Besides art things, I also really love animals. My family has two dogs, a bichon and a dachschund, and they are practically my children. My roommate and I also have a cat at our apartment- and though he is a turd, I adore him. I would also absolutely love to get a hedgehog one day. As well as these things, I have an obsession with the film industry, so if there are any movies that you would recommend- let me know!
I'm very excited to begin this class, and I look forward to what is to come!
I couldn't quite figure out how to change the orientation, so I apologize for it being sideways! My prompt for this day was 'faces' and the utensil I chose was a pink pen. This was very fun for me because drawing faces is one of my favorite things to do. It also helped because I mostly draw in pencil or digitally, and with that- I can erase and erase and erase every little thing I don't like. This helped me make a mark and be confident with it, which made me remember how much I like working with pen. I will be doing more pen portraits after today :)
My time limit was three minutes, and my prompt was fruit! I decided to draw some cherries, because we had some sitting around and they look cute. I'll be honest, though I should be used to timed drawings because we have them a lot at school, this still stressed me out a bit. I danced back and forth between wanting it to look nice and finishing it in the allotted time. Luckily, I picked another pen today, so I had no option to erase or spend unnecessary time adjusting things.
The place that I chose was the lobby of my apartment building. It was actually kind of nice being down there, because normally I have the distraction of my roommates or things in my apartment when I'm home. Being in the lobby, I was able to work quickly and more efficiently! I might start taking my homework there from now on. My prompt for today was birds, and the medium I chose were some microns. I really enjoyed this one, I'm not usually a fan of drawing birds because all the feathers are intimidating- but I found them to be very calming this time.
Last day! Just kidding, with the popsicle sticks I chose twelve more days, and hopefully I will continue many more after that. I didn't really pick a prompt today, but there is a story behind my drawing. This car, a light blue mini cooper with white stripes- was my first car, my baby. I named them Watson, because of my love for Emma Watson (Hermione in Harry Potter) and John Watson (Sherlock Holmes' sidekick). I had this car for about three years, until last week when I spun off the highway in a snow storm and hit a sign going around 60 miles an hour. Thankfully, I was unhurt, but my car was toast. I decided to draw Watson because just last night I was able to find a decent car and settle a deal. In my excitement and relief of having a vehicle again, I was reminded of how much I loved this car despite its many problems. So here is a little tribute to Watson, my little speed demon- I hope your scraps can be used to make someone as happy as I was with you while we were together!
I also wanted to say that I really enjoyed this journey, this was the first class I took on Skillshare- and it has made me want to take so many more. I was very nervous about doing these courses on top of school, but because of this class, I was eased in and feel so very excited to start taking more. The tips and tricks in these videos helped so much, and I know that I will struggle much less with excuses. Thank you so much for starting this journey for me.
-Day 1 of 12-
I was unable to chose from my prompts today because my only time to draw was while at work, so I did a small self portrait with pen. Portraits are really my favorite, because faces can change so dramatically just by moving a feature just the slightest. I love them.
-Day 2 of 12-
This day I forgot my sketchbook at home and only had my tablet for digital. I wasn't able to finish the drawing, but I think I got a decent amount of progress done! I want to print this character and glue her into my sketchbook when I go to school tomorrow.
-Day 3 of 12-
I did this drawing for a friend of mine, so it actually came out of the sketchbook and is being shipped across the country. I'm very excited to see how they react when they get it. His favorite disney princess is Ariel, so I drew her in my own style for him.
-Day 4 of 12-
Today my prompt was a drink, and I chose this picture I took of my latte one time. It was at a really cute coffee shop nearby, and I loved the way the foam was swirled. This was done with micron pens!
-Day 5 of 12-
Today I did a sketch of my friend because she has really helped motivate me lately, and I appreciate her help more than she knows. Just a pencil sketch, when I tried to go over it with micron I messed up the eyes, so this was technically not the finished product.
-Day 6 of 12-
Today was a portrait of my sister. She is going through a really rough time right now, and sometimes I just want to remind her that she is the most beautiful, wonderful person I know. I love her so much. Anyway, I'm thinking now that I may start doing a 100 days of portraits because I absolutely love them, and I think it would be really fun to do.
-Day 7 of 12-
Portraits, portraits, portraits. Not going to lie, today was a rough day for me, so it was hard to motivate myself to draw.
