This is my moodboad; I chose a crane as Crane is my surname, and I have a long standing fascination with Japan. It seemed a natural choice to look at the beautiful flowing forms of the dancing cranes found on Hokkaido!

These are just some of the (very) many drawings and redrawings I did on tracing paper. Initially I wanted to go for a fully colour blocked shape, but when I tried working it up on the computer it felt too heavy, so back to the drawing board...

Eventually I settled on an outlined version, which would leave the middle more open and 'airy' like the birds' spread wings. The legs were the hardest as I didn't want to go too thin and have them disappear at smaller scales. I had the same issue with how thick to make the outline.

This is my finished mark. After a bit of playing around I added a slight shadow here and there, which added a little depth but just seemed to help bring it together.

Really happy to hear your thoughts and feedback. Loved this class, and I've always wanted to get better at logo design. Thanks George!
