Daily Sketch Challenge - Marylore Seecharan

Hi all :)

Thank you very much Elisa for making this class and this workshop, I'm looking forward to take this wonderful habit of sketching every day! This is my first workshop participation and first time I'm posting a project, a bit impressed but from other classmates comments, I know I'm in good hands!

DAY 31 - WHAT CAPTURE YOUR SENSES:

In my office there is this wonderful scented soy candle, called 'oscar Wilde' that is supposed to recreate an ambiance that could make you think of Oscar Wilde's litterature and world :)

I used watercolors, brown and sepia, and a liner.

DAY 26 - GO SOMEWHERE NEW:

Went to this wonderful museum/café in Dublin called Chester Beaty library. It's a museum where you can find really old illustrations from japanese, chinese and oriental cultures. It's crazy to see these old drawings and it so detailed! It has a great glass roof and patio where you can get a coffee, if you go to Dublin, it's a must do :)

DAY 24 - FURNITURE:

Found this awesome piece of furniture, 50's style, on a peer to peer selling platform. Always wanted one but became crazy expensive since it's trendy... I got lucky and got it for a great deal! It's gorgeous and always makes me happy when I see it in the middle of our living room.

DAY 23 - EVERYDAY ACTIVITY OF PEOPLE:

Went to a cafe and saw that girl who reminded me in a daily activity... ahah! I am trying to get away from technology at time, it has become more difficult to be alone with yourself and just enjoy silence and inactivity these days, don't you think?

DAY 22 - TEXTURE:

That was an intensive sketch! I tried to get the bubble effect with the lines and and then get the plastic material with the watercolor, using Payne's Gray and sometimes just water on the pen.

DAY 21 - DESSERT:

Here's my quick dessert for lunch, a natural yogurt with some chesnut spread (so good!) a french specialty, and a homebaked banana muffin from the week end.

i used my watercolor palette and liner 0.1 and 0.5 for outlines.

DAY 20 - PATTERNS:

I love this pencil case my friend Celina made, she is super talented and couldnt find anything better with pattern in my house. I use this case constantly, it has all my liner pens!

I used watercolors (Ruby re and Mdder Lake Red light, Turquoise blue with a bit of Zinc white, Payne's Gray mixed with the reds to do the shadows on the case, neutral Black for the outside case shadow, Ultra Marine blue for pattern inside the case using white Gelly Roll Pen for details of the blue pattern) and black liner marker 0.05 and 0.1for outlines.

DAY 19 - ACCESSORY:

I present to you my fave sunglasses, perfect to make anyone smile on rainy days :)

They always bring me joy!

I used watercolors and liner, but added shadow with a Pencil B to give it a bit of mixed media feel.

DAY 18 - BAG:

I love this soft satchel bag style, I can fit loads of stuff, including my big watercolor palet (36 colors) and my A5 sketchpad + all the regular purse thingys a girl has.

DAY 17 - FLOWERS:

There aren't many flowers just yet in Ireland but the Daffodils are out! It was Daffodils Day last friday and so I couldn't thnk of any other flowers to draw :)

DAY 16 - ANIMAL:

I don't have a pet home, and since the pigeons are very quick to fly off the window, I draw this hare from the Natural History Museum in Dublin.

I used usual liner 0.1 and the browns on my palet, leaving white parts and using more or less water to create layer effects. From ocre, to different Sienna and Sepia for the darkest.

DAY 15 - STRANGER:

I went to pick up a package to the post office and took the bus. To be honest I took a photo and draw from it later, because my ride was very short and I always wanted to draw someone in the bus and see... I tried to put myself in a sketching mode where I might not have time to get all the details, so here it is:

DAY 12 - COLLECTION:

I'm a tea fan and my cupboard is full of tea boxes, here is the ones you can see when opening my cupboard!

DAY 11 - VEGETABLE:

I had this half butternut in the fridge, so here it is :)

I used Golden color watercolor, some Zinc White and Yellow Ocre/Sepia mix for the seeds and accents. I also used a brown liner from Derwent as pen for this one, and I first applied the watercolors then used the liner to contour see how that worked for me. But I definaley prefer using the pen first and then color the sketch, contouring at the end isn't as fun for me, I feel less freedom, as i was tring to match the colored shapes already on the paper and not draw what i would what I would see. It becomes less of a sketch and more of a finished drawing for me, that makes a difference.

DAY 10 - APPLIANCES:

I really like the quote Elisa took in her exemple, I also feel that my sketches are better with a waterproof pen than with a pencil and so I'm really happy to have tried a black ball pen for this sketch of the day :) I use my toaster every day, it's an essential in my kitchen and it's all in metal chrome so loads of shadows effect to paint.

I used watercolors for the chrome and the black plastic parts, Neutral Black.

That's 3 drawings using grey/black colors these days, but I really like the results!

DAY 9 - CLOTHES:

With these cold days my dark grey whooly hat is always around and I never leave without it, I couldn't think of any other clothes at the time. I really enjoyed drawing the pompom at the top, that was a fun part! Since it was flat on the table, it wasn't easy to recreate the volume with the shadows I find.

I used a liner marker 0.1 and watercolor Payne's Gray.

DAY 8 - SHOES:

I chose my favorite black boots to draw today because I really like their shape and details :)

I just used a nib pen with china ink (black) and a waterbrush for the shadows. I had a drop accident on the background shoe at the tip, too much ink dropped on the paper. But that's what beautiful about nib pens I find, so i'm ok with it if the drawing isn't perfect.

DAY 7 - DRINK:

This is my morning drink to cleanse, hot lemon water. The glass reflections details were quite difficult to grasp so I stayed kind a vague and not too detailed on the effects.

I used liner 0.1, watercolors Cadmium Yellow Medium, Zinc White and Payne's Gray colors.

c9818bf4

DAY 6 - BOOK:

I chose one of my favorite books and illustrators, Edward Gorey. I love his style, his strokes creating the drawings depth and the cynical stories.

I used the color Cadium Lemon from my aquarelles watercolors, a Staedtler 0.1 and a Uni Pin 0.5 liners.

DAY 5 - FRUIT:

I really like the pomegranate shape and colors, especially once it's a bit dried. I tried to stay closer to the original colors, in the light browns, ocres, gold and light reds.

I used watercolors aquarelles and line marker.

DAY 4 - BUILDING:

There is this beautiful brick building in my street, and so I couldn't think of a better one to draw because it has wonderful colour on a sunny day! It has copper coupoles on the roof and the contrast between the green the brick and the blue sky is a joy to look at when the sun hits the facade on the afternoon!

I added the shadow in the end, was scared to mess the whole thing, but it is pretty close to what you can see around 4 pm, the shadow of the opposite building covering little by little the orange shining bricks.

I used Graphik line Maker but realise with adding the wtercolor that it is not waterproof! Then aquarelles.

DAY 3 - LUNCH:

I had fun drawing my lunch plate seen from above, I tried Elisa's technique to draw the plate the toasts and the omelette first in the air, then on the paper. I started with a 0.1 liner to draw the plate, then the toasts then the omelette. Once the elements were on the paper, I used watercolors and tried to match the colors I could see. I finsihed with the shadows with a grey color with more or less water to laer the shadow intensity.

I used a liner marker, a waterbrush with aquarelle watercolor set.

DAY 2 - TREE:

I find that trees in winter time are very graphic with all those lines the branches are creating, although it felt a bit difficult to recreate the feel and the look of a winter tree, I hope the spirit is there.

I used a waterbrush filed with black ink.

DAY 1 - SELF PORTRAIT:

I'm very excited to start this 30 days challenge, even if this self portrait looks like I have a total different expression than how I felt when drawing it. I drew my face too large at the base and tried to make it up with adding shadowing... Happy with the result in the end. Since sketching is a learning playground, I'm less hard on myself and I'm not scared to make mistakes :)

I used a line marker and black pencil for shadows.
