Cycling Illustrator Poster

Pretty much finished now. I've added all the type and the textures. It's not perfect, there were a few things that are a bit hacky and that I'll try and improve if I have the time:

  • "Share the Road" and that inner circle aren't perfectly aligned with the rest of the wheel, I did it by hand/eye, for some reason Illustrator wasn't snapping there.
  • Some of the patterns don't line up perfectly (the squares pattern doesn't start at the top-left of the texture, so you get a tiny bit of a square, it looks bad, hard to explain.
  • Otherwise I'm really happy with it. Surprised I managed to match the original so closely! If anyone has any criticism that'd be great, I'd love to know how I could've done things better.

I managed to get most of this done today. Interesting learning how to use all the different shapes. I'm leaving the text and textures, etc. til last. Original on the left, mine on the right. Just realised I forgot to give the guy in the bottom right a bicycle, so he's kinda floating XD

First bit of progress: original on the left, mine on the right. The next step is to learn how to create the cogs in the sun and the lines on the wheel down the bottom, then the patterns.

I finished the cog and started on the spokes of the wheel. I've used the line tool and rotated it around the circle center. How can I now make each intersection into a different shape (so that I can colour it differently)?

Totally new to Illustrator, so I've picked something that doesn't look too complicated, but still has a lot of different elements - textures, text, shapes, etc. If I don't have time I might just recreate part of the poster.
