Quick sketches to illustrate "loudness." Considering a purely abstract image, but definitely want to show depth and texture. I also decided to share my word web. It really helped me to create visuals!

I abandoned the idea of an abstract illustration, but still wanted to keep it simple so that I could really practice the color techniques and play with pattern and texture without getting overwhlemed. Here is my colorblocked digital illustration.

Let me just start by saying that no one ever accused me of being on to make quick decisions! I could have continued playing with this image for many more hours. However, for the sake of finishing it on time, I must let go of it (for now.) I experimented a lot with balancing pattern and texture, and I really struggled to reconcile the clean vector look with grungy, gritty texture. In the future, I think I will use Brad's technique to roughen the edges to see if that blends all of the components a little better. I really enjoyed playing with these techniques. I fully intend to make them all part of my design toolkit. Thank you, everyone, for your feedback! I hope you can see a difference between the first and the last. It's been wonderful. I hope to run into you guys again somewhere in cyberspace.
