Cowboy Character

Hey, guys!

Here's a link to my Pinterest board for this class: http://pinterest.com/keepinitreel78/character-inspiration/. I've been on PInterest for awhile, collecting plenty of character designs and tips - but this is one of the first times I've made a board specifically for a project.


Anyways - I decided to do a quick cowboy character for my project. I've always liked poking fun at stereotypical/cliche retro illustration - including the "button"-eyed doey look. That being said, I went for the laid-back cowboy look.

Here's my quick sketch:

I mostly wanted to focus mostly on posing, which is sometimes hard to accomplish using Illustrator, in order to create a "realistic" character.

From there, I blocked out my shapes...

I'm pleasantly surprised at how this came out. I can't wait to experiment with more textures and brushes in Photoshop. I've worked solely in Illustrator and Photoshop, but haven't brought my work between the two programs before - so it was interesting to see how that could change the image.

***UPDATE***

Here's the image again, this time with a quick roughed in background. It's really just something to keep the character grounded.
