I decided to take a little bit of a more alternative look on nature and make a space pattern. This is a theme I've worked with before on a short film for kids so I already had an idea of the feel I wanted it to have.

I started with putting together a moodboard with some of my own photographs and then some from NASA and films.

Then I put together a fairly small colour scheme because I'm aiming for a pretty minimalist pattern.

After that initial prep, I went on to doing a few sketches, scanning them in and going over them with the blob brush tool.

Taa-daa! Motifs.

It was so fun to arrange them all into a pattern - I found it very intuitive and suprisingly enough a pretty calming process! This is what I put together.

Then I did some recolouring; I decided it was best to just use two colours at a time and tried to stick to a monochromatic approach but went a bit mad with trying different colour combos at the end:

I also added a very subtle texture and I think that turned out pretty nice too! Not very noticeable but does give it a little bit of a nicer feel.

And here are my two favourite final patterns :)
