After years of working with other designers files at a large stationery company, I have recently been working towards creating my own designs.
I thought I knew Illustrator pretty well, but I have discovered a whole new way of working thanks to this workshop. Due to time constraints, for this exercise I sketched from images in a magazine and picked an existing Design Seeds colour palette to prevent too much procrastination! My mood board is not very considered, I kind of winged it for speed, but as I progress, I hope to take a more structured approach with all of these preparation stages.
The most useful things I picked up from this workshop were how to use the blob tool and how to recolour designs - I had not explored those functions previously.
Initial sketches from magazine images.
Mood board, subject and colour inspiration starting point.
Motifs taken from sketches using a combination of scanning and image trace as well as drawing with the blob tool.
Pattern repeat 1 - 'scatter' version
Pattern repeat 2 - 'bouquet' version
And finally, a re-coloured version of the 'bouquet' pattern...
