After I painted the background on these sheets of very textured cold-press, I decided this was the perfect project to try out my small "Hygge" palette from The Art of Soils. Each painting has a dominant shape using one of the pastels, a subordinate shape using one of the neutrals, and a third shape using a little sample of a dark brown-black that came with my palette.
I also decided to let my lines stray over into the white border. I like that effect! I used a Pitt brush pen in a brownish-taupe for the lines. I made small dots by both spraying the dark watercolor and tapping the pitt pen, which gave me more control.
I think the lefthand painting is more successful. On the righthand one, I tried to paint the third shape before the underlying shape was dry, and you can see where I tried to cover up for that.
