Complete: Mustn't be afraid... | Skillshare Projects

Complete: Mustn't be afraid...

STATUS: Complete (for now.)

This is the first class that I've done through Skillshare and my first class post college. I'm really looking forward to seeing what I can do and come up with! The quote that I chose comes from one of my favorite movies, Inception.

"[You] Mustn't be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling."

I think for the sake of simplicity, I'll keep off the 'you' part.

Aside from what the scene was depicting (a dream scene with a giant grenade launcher), it's a quote that reminds me every day that no matter how big the dream, that I shouldn't be afraid to go for it.

Time to start the list and brainstorming process!

I'm wondering if I chose too long of a quote or rather a difficult one to handletter. Time will tell! Besides, I can always do another, right?

Here's a list I started out with and then a mood board I put together! I'm thinking of going in the direction of a poster since it lends itself to a larger space to work with.

Part of the challenge is deciding which direction to take; relate it toward the movie more or abstractly.

I'll have more moodboards that inspire me but something that I've noticed right off is that I have a few pieces above where the words are taking one unique shapes and relationships with other words and embellishments. Something to look into further, perhaps!

That's all from me for now. Any other ideas that would go well would be very helpful!

----- Years, YEARS Later (July 6, 2017) -----

I started this project some years ago.

I left it. Came back to it. Left it. Came back to it...

You get the idea.

This year, I finally got it to the point where I was pleased with it enough that I could send it to my friend. It had gone through many, Many, MANY renditions and the best part? I can see the improvement each time I did it.

I wanted to update this project with the progress and the final (for now because I have ideas) look.

Final Thoughts:

I love seeing how my skills have improved in many aspects and finding where I still need work. There are some things that I tend to go back and improve / tighten up and add a splash of color. For a first big project, I was very pleased with the result.

Completing it has definitely opened me up to doing more lettering and continual practice!
