Committed - Final Draft

STEP 1 - SELECTED TEXT:

I was immediately intrigued by the story of Wendell P. Bloyd of Spoon River Anthology. The first four lines of his poem exposed the complexity of hypocrisy and the tragedy and injustice that can result.

"They first charged me with disorderly conduct,
There being no statute on blasphemy.
Later they locked me up as insane
Where I was beaten to death by a Catholic guard."

I imagine Wendell as a homosexual man in the early 1950's who is conflicted about his feelings of Faith in the context of religion. I hope to show the injustice of imprisoning a man only because he's openly voiced his doubt and to characterize the guard by exposing his hate-fllled duplicitous crime.
