Colour Identity

Colour Identity - student project

I have found myself reaching for my favourite colours over and over again and thought I could do with broadening my horizons. This class seemed a good place to start!

I didn't have a great mid blue in my palette so the purples on my first colour wheel ended up being a bit muddy. I decided to split my primaries for a second attempt and I was able to keep the colours much more clear.

I've always been drawn to the orange/blue colour combo so I thought I'd do a few oranges for the warm up exercise and I rather like the way they turned out.

For the Intuitive colour mixing I tried to pick colours that I hadn't used together before so I've finished up with two palettes that I've never painted with before. I'm looking forward to testing them out!

I really enjoyed the personal colour palette exercise. It was so relaxing and really helped me get to know all the paints I have on my palette. I found some schemes easier to keep cohesive than others. The 'pheasant feathers' board was particularly challenging because there were so many colours to keep track of. There are a couple in there that I don't think quite fit, but it got easier to mix harmoniously as I went along.

Here's my final piece, I went with the 'rainforest flora' scheme and it was so much fun to paint!

Thank you Ana for a really interesting class that I could sink my teeth into. It was very enjoyable and I will definitely be taking some new ideas away from it.
